Description

Event Description:

Collaborative Creation: Improvisation Workshop. This workshop will teach the skills of successful improvisation -- fearlessly taking risks, withholding judgment, and engaging enthusiastically with every idea -- and apply them to your work environment.

Participants will take away actionable tools for expressing oneself more confidently and creating more effectively as a team -- and have fun doing so in a safe, fast-paced, and low-pressure environment. BCC Workshops are Experiential Learning.

We apply tools from improv, theater, & stand-up to teach communication, innovation, and leadership skills, and build trust among teams.

Event Itinerary:

  1. The workshop begins with all participants gathering together for an introduction
  2. We'll then split off into groups (up to 25 participants per instructor) for a 90 minute or longer improvisation workshop that provides concrete skills for how to approach creativity and team-building through fun games and exercises.
  3. The workshop ends with all guests gathering for a 'final exercise' that ties everything together and a recap of what we covered and/or a professionally improvised show by our professional improvisers at the BCC.

What You Will Make / Go Home With:

Each guest will go home with:

A thorough understanding of:

  • Saying ""Yes, And"" to every idea.
  • Listening to and making what the other person said important.
  • Creating and supporting an ensemble (everyone acting as both leader and follower).
  • Storytelling and creating a Narrative.
  • Gift-giving, empowering, and making your partners look good.
  • Having the courage to not waste time and create expeditiously and efficiently.
  • Accepting and building with offers (both overt and subtle ones).
  • Influencing and getting people to be ""on receive"" to your offers.
  • Getting everyone the same page with clear communication (understanding different methods of communication via ethos / pathos / logos).
  • Disarming difficult conversations and making sure your partner is on receive to hear what you are communicating.
  • Assuming competence: having the courage to become something you are not yet.
  • Getting out of how you're "typecast" by "faking it till you make it"
  • There is no right or wrong, only weak or strong choices.
  • Transforming fear of the unknown into an opportunity for learning.
  • Developing presence and positive state of mind (reframing your nerves so they help you).
  • Trusting your intuition and following your gut.
  • How to offer feedback, direction, and coaching.
  • Responding with curiosity when it comes to difficult situations vs. reacting emotionally.

About the Venue:

We currently produce shows in Williamsburg Brooklyn at the Brick Theater, a state-of-the-art, beautiful theater space right off the Metropolitan/Lorimer subway stop - and host our classes at a space called Vital Joint - which has a very hip, DIY, underground feel to it. We can also come to you in your space.
