Event Description: 

Join a seasoned Chef-Instructor for a tour of NYC's largest and most beloved farmers market: the Union Square Greenmarket. You'll wander through the farm stands, shopping for local produce and products, while filling your reusable bags with seasonal loot. Participants will learn: what makes something "local," why "organic" is not the most important label at the market, and what produce is currently in season. After a 45 tour, you'll head downtown via subway to Home Cooking New York, a SoHo cooking school, where you'll prepare a full, seasonally-inspired lunch to enjoy together.


Event Itinerary: 

  1. We'll start by meeting at the Union Square Greenmarket on the NW corner of Broadway/East 17th (in front of Pret a Manger)
  2. Together we'll tour the market and shop (45 minutes)
  3. After we finish buying our ingredients, we'll head downtown to our school & kitchen via subway (20 minutes)
  4. Once we arrive, we'll unpack and prepare a quick appetizer to snack on (30 minutes)
  5. Next, we'll prepare our meal together, guided by an expert chef (1 hour)
  6. Finally, we'll all sit down and enjoy the fruits of our labor! (45 minutes)

What You Will Make / Go Home With: 

Each guest will go home with:

  • A recipe packet will be emailed to the host to share with guests, which will include recipes based on the ones created at the event.

About the Instructor: 

Jennifer Clair and Erica Wides will be leading these tours and are passionate about local foods and seasonality. Both have been teaching cooking classes for almost 20 years and love nothing more than taking home cooks out into the market to touch, feel, and smell the ingredients that make up a good meal. Their enthusiasm and food knowledge is infectious.


About the Venue: 

Our kitchen is a mix of vintage, modern, and industrial. We have combined the functionality of a commercial teaching kitchen (22 feet of butcher block and stainless steel work tables, metal counter stools, and every possible piece of cooking equipment) tempered with the warmth of home (wooden farm table, blown-glass and enamel pendant lights, massive skylight over the dining area). We can comfortably accommodate up to 16 people for a cooking class and sit-down meal. We can also rent a larger, similarly-appointed kitchen around the corner from us, that can host up to 35 people.

How to Book

After selecting your approximate group size and date, you’ll be able to let us know about any accommodations you need before completing your payment.

You will be able to make some alterations to accommodations and group size after payment, as we know those things may be subject to change.

If you’d like to book this event to take place in your office or home, please indicate it in the Special Requests field.

Once you’ve completed your booking, you’ll be connected directly with your event provider to hash out any further necessary details.

Cancellation Policy

Strict: This provider allows for cancellations with a full refund to occur 2 weeks or more in advance of the event. Cancelling within a window of less than 2 weeks will result in an inability to be refunded.

Changes Policy:

Flexible: You will be able to make changes to your group size up until 72 hours as long as you meet the provider minimum. You will also have up until this period to make additional accommodations for the event
