Event Description:

In the midst of a functional artists studio, your team will learn a handful of the most fundamental ceramic techniques. Using your new hand-building knowledge, your team will be able to create their own personal, functional pottery that they can use for years to come.

Event Itinerary:

  1. Guests will be introduced to the material with a brief discussion. Students can discuss any specific goals they have at this point.
  2. Each participant will have clay to practice with, and will follow along through a series of demos.
  3. After the demos, participants will "disect" their practice piece and examine their work with the instructor.
  4. Participants will receive paper and pencil to plan their final work.
  5. New clay will be provided and the participants will begin work on their final piece. They will now have access to additional tools for decorating and embellishing their work.
  6. As participants work, the instructor will provide assistance and advice.
  7. Glazing is not included in the workshop cost. If the organization would like people to have their work fired and finished for them, participants will finally select the glaze color they want for their piece. Glazing & Firing costs $12 additional per item. Items will be ready for pickup in 3-4 weeks or can be shipped for the cost of shipping/postage.

What You Will Make / Go Home With:

Each guest will go home with:

  • Their very own ceramic object they made.
  • The pieces they make can be fired and glazed for them to keep and use (everything we use is food, dishwasher, and microwave safe).

About the Instructor:

Eleni Kontos has been working in the Brooklyn ceramic scene for almost a decade. Her work experience ranges from the sculptural to the design and production of objects for everyday use. For five years she has been sharing her passion for clay and experience in the business with teams of all types.

Highly recommend this workshop! It's a balanced combination of instructional demos and free time to work on our own projects. Eleni was a great instructor and gave personal attention to help each person in the class. She even stayed late so my friend and I could finish our pieces.

Elini is a wonderful teacher who teaches a great class in her funky studio in Williamsburg. Was a great thing to do as a date but would have also enjoyed it solo. Definitely recommend!

Had a blast at this ceramics class!! The instructor was super patient, kind and personable. She made sure to help each one out individually. I'd most definitely take another class here again. In fact, I'm looking into booking another class after writing this review! Perhaps a level two class!!
